The Pacific Northwest’s Largest Convention Center Provides Wireless Access to Exhibitors and Visitors

Portland, Ore. (October 17, 2003)-- The Oregon Convention Center and Eleven Wireless announced that the recently expanded center now features a high-speed wireless (“Wi-Fi”) network that provides Internet access to exhibitors and meeting participants.

The wireless network will provide quick, convenient and reliable Internet access to exhibitors and visitors with wireless laptops or personal digital assistant anytime, anywhere throughout the nearly 1-million-square-foot facility. To introduce the service, the center is offering free Wi-Fi access to its patrons and public from Oct. 16 – 22.

Portland is leading the nation with the most Wi-Fi access per capita, based on a recent industry study. “When the Northwest’s largest convention center can tout Wi-Fi access throughout its facility, the Portland metropolitan area gains a distinct edge in attracting conventions and trade shows over other cities,” said Metro Council President David Bragdon.

“Convention planners and participants demand fast Internet connections, and the request for wireless services is rapidly growing” said Jeffrey Blosser, OCC executive director. “Eleven delivers the speed, reliability and tools we need to provide a superior wireless experience to our customers.

Eleven will provide the center with ElevenOS, its software platform that enables OCC to offer multiple service levels for end-user purchase and the ability to bill customers via credit card, pre-paid cards or direct to their convention center account. The software also provides an OCC branded Wi-Fi experience to the users from the moment they log on.

“The Oregon Convention Center has set the standard for providing superior technology and communication services to exhibitors,” said Andrew Yorra, vice president of sales and business development for Eleven. “We’re honored to have been selected to maintain that level of quality in their wireless service offering.”

After Oct. 23, visitors to the center will have a choice of two wireless service plans – 60 minutes for $6 or 24 hours for $12. Plans may be purchased online with a credit card or with the activation of a pre-paid access card.
