Eleven Wireless Appoints New CEO
Seasoned executive joins Portland-based company after recent closing of first investment round
PORTLAND, Ore. - April 19, 2005 -- Eleven Wireless, a leading provider of on-demand software for managing public-access Internet networks, announced today that Kevin Macgillivray has joined the software company as chief executive officer.
Macgillivray, whose appointment is effective immediately, has also accepted a seat on the company’s board of directors. Eleven co-founder and former CEO Josh Friedman will become Vice President of Marketing.
Macgillivray’s track record is well-established. As CEO of Splash Technology, he led that company’s successful spin-out from Radius in 1995 and raised $23 million in venture funding before a $30 million initial public offering in 1996. Over the next five years, Macgillivray boosted sales to $85 million and positioned the company as the number two player in its industry. Splash was acquired by the number one player, Electronics for Imaging (NASDAQ: EFII), for $146 million in 2001.
Friedman said Macgillivray is well suited to help Eleven reach its next-stage goals. “Kevin is a strong leader with a wealth of knowledge,” he said. “His experience at the CEO level is what Eleven needs to achieve its growth objectives. He was the clear choice for this role.”
Macgillivray was attracted to Eleven by its tenaciousness and early product success. “Eleven has demonstrated real success in building software, acquiring customers and meeting a previously unfulfilled market need,” he said. “That’s a solid platform for company growth going forward, and I am proud to lead the team through the next phase.”
Eleven’s flagship product, ElevenOS, provides public-access network operators the ability to build and centrally manage Wi-Fi, WiMAX and wired networks.
Friedman, Josh Blank and Andrew Yorra founded Eleven in early 2002 and bootstrapped the company with limited outside investment for the first three years of business. The company closed its first financing round in late 2004. Friedman says the company will pursue additional funding later in 2005.
